Thoughts on Maundy Thursday

Jesus meets with his disciples
they eat together

Eating together creates a connection
creates trust
conveys togetherness
promotes fellowship

He breaks the bread
divides it up
everyone gets their share
all are considered
no one goes away empty-handed
they are one community

We celebrate in His memory
we come together
bread is broken
everyone gets a piece
no one is forgotten

but what kind of community are we today?

Let us reflect,
what we expect from a real community,

what we are missing,

and what we / I could contribute.
