shalom aleikhem - salt-ahis'Alaykum -
amani iwe juu yako -
Amani iwe nanyi –
Amani na wewe –
Amani iwe nanyi –
Amani kwenu –
Amani iwe nanyi ...!

Your reflection is very good but I don’t think the Greek concept of amnesty was ever incorporated as part of Church teaching. In fact, the Church teaching on purgatory appears to contradict it. I am sure that God could issue amnesty is He willed to do so, but I don’t think He ever asked us to do so.
Hi Jim, thank you for your comment. We discussed it with interest in our group and came to the following thought:
Following the thought of Pope Benedict XVI.: “Purgatory is like a purifying fire burning inside a person, a painful experience of regret for their sins. It is the process of transforming, necessarily from within, to become Christ-capable, God-capable, and thus capable of unity with the whole communion of saints.“
So it can be seen as a moment of a last remind on the life where the good and bad is brought before the loving God. The purification happens through the recognition of the wrongdoing and the connected hurt. Through the mercy of the loving God, this wrongdoing will be deleted and the way opened into the glory.
Kwa njia hii, it would be amnesty. But we must never forget that all our thoughts and actions can only happen with a deep bow of respect and humility before Him. Our view is that of ants in the meadow, they will never be able to recognize the landscape with all its facets – maybe someone only very little parts of it.
Hi Christian, thank you for the reference to beloved Benedict. What I said God could do if He willed it, Benedict says that is what God actually does for the souls in purgatory. On second reading of the description of the Greek law of amnesty, it appears to be self-contradictory in that if a citizen violates it, then society ignores it and executes the violator. This illustrates how much better God’s laws are than man’s laws.
God’s blessings and Merry Christmas to all.

Great way to prepare and make present in us the “Prince of Peace”
Lovely reflection and timely reminder to relax and be at peace with oneself that we may reflect that peacefulness to others.
What a beautiful way to begin the season of Advent and the journey of peaceful waiting.
