GA 2024 – Päivä 6

Dear readers,

Since accessing the internet in Logrone was very difficult because the corresponding wifi networks kept crashing, I will now make the events available here as a roundup.

Election Day

Before we could begin electing the new General Committee, we had to vote on the proposal for formation and the ROPs. Both were unanimously approved.

After the coffee break and a time of prayer and adoration in the chapel, the voting delegates elected the new leadership team: Christian Patzl (Itävalta) – President, and Celso Calleff (Brasilia) – Vice President.

Lounaan jälkeen, Bobby Pantuso (USA), Sammantha Da Luz (Australia), Olga Lucia Hurtado (Kolumbia), and Monica Cuadra (Venezuela) – were elected as General Committee members.

After that, the two internal auditors were elected, these are Sussan Mugurusi (Tanzania) and Mariangeles Molina (Guatemala/Spain).

After the elections, the voting members, observers, and guests had time to socialize. Meanwhile, the new members of the board shared their ideas, visions, and hopes for the upcoming term with each other and presented them at the GA the next day.

The day ended with a celebratory mass of thanks and confidence.

It was Sunday and we took the bus to a very important place in Spanish history. It was the monastery of San Millán Yuso and Suso, where the first written words in the Spanish language were found. We took a guided tour of the two houses and were confronted with the highly interesting history of the place.
The day gave us time to relax and reflect on the past few days and also to get to know our sisters and brothers in a different and more relaxed way.

The morning began with a lecture on the content of a message. How is the message “sent” and what content is “received”? What do we read or believe we read in the message? We realized that there are several very different possibilities as to why misinterpretations can occur in communication again and again. The “familiarsaying “The window is open” accompanied us for further discussion in the small groupsbut also for the rest of the whole meeting.

In any case, it is important to pay more attention to what is said in the future and, if necessary, to ask questions several times. Continue Reading

The packed program of the assembly continued. We saw an outline of the signs of the times and how we might respond to their questions, and an introduction to the ROPs, what they are, and what significance they have for the work of the organization. This revealed some discussion points, which were further explored in small groups.

In the afternoon, we had a presentation by the outgoing Superior General of the Salvatorians, Fr. Milton Zonta SDS. He shared with us the developments within the Society and its intentions for the future. Of course, aspects of the collaboration between the three Salvatorian branches were also an important topic. Dear readers,

Since accessing the internet in Logrone was very difficult because the corresponding wifi networks kept crashing, I will now make the events available here as a roundup.

The second day began with a talk by Father George Kolodziej SDS, the facilitator of the General Assembly. He took us on a reflective journey of how to treat each other in a sisterly and brotherly way, and how to treat each other with respect and patience. We need to respect our differences in culture, mentality, language, and way of expressing ourselves. At the same time, we can discover the richness that God has given us through these things.

The other items on the morning’s agenda were the report of the General Committee on the last term of office and the difficulties caused by the absences of General Committee members, the Covid crisis and its impact, but also the great joy of being recognized as an Association of the Faithful at the Dicastery of Laity, Family, and Life. GA 2024 – Päivä 1

The General Assembly of the ICDS began with the opening Mass in the large chapel of the Salvatorian House. Father George Kolodziej SDS from the Australian province celebrated it with two other Salvatorian priests from the house. The beeswax candle, the wax that comes from all continents and is thus a symbol of the different origins of the participants who work for the ICDS, was lit again.

After thatChristian Patzl, the current president of the ICDS, officially opened the event with a speech reflecting on the world’s current situation and several difficulties and challenges affecting the Lay Salvatorians in their different realities. He concluded with an outlook on future challenges, particularly the authentic response of lay Salvatorians to the questions of the time and the training necessary for this.

Other items on the agenda included a review of the history of the ICDS and the ratification of the ICDS statutes recognized by the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life.
